Have a Kickin' New Year

You know how upcoming movies have little screenshots or teasers of some sort? I was thinking that occasionally I would post a panel or page from an issue that's "in the works". This is a small panel from the Dan Berger written story called DAY IN THE LIFE. DITL will be Tales 55 due out in February. This scene shows Raph and Mike sparring, with the predictable results.

Happy New Year everyone!

Letter from Japan

I got a letter from Japan yesterday afternoon. It was in most ways, your "normal" fan letter- however, I was struck by it's philosophical and almost lyrical nature. It was truly beautiful. Kat, I want to thank you very much for writing me.
What accompanied the letter was a piece of art, and I knew that this art had come to me, seemingly for a purpose. You see, I had been thinking that I needed to come up with a quick Christmas-themed sketch or drawing to make for today's post. When I saw Kat's drawing, I knew that I had found the art for this occasion. Nothing that I could do could surpass the peace and dignity of her gift.
Thanks again Kat, and Merry Xmas everyone.

Wanna Race?

This is an inked version of a pin-up that appeared in Tales 50. There was a wicked rush to get the book wrapped up and sent out- my memory is that Dan asked me to do it on a Sunday night on the return trip from the show we did in Boston last fall. I had to have it done for the following day. This bummed me out because I knew that Pete and Steve Lavigne (who had come down for the show) were planning a little motorcycle ride down to Sharon, CT to visit their old stomping grounds. I knew I couldn't finish it but I pencilled the pin-up that night and came into work Mon. morning, ready to ink it up so that Dan could get the book to Brenner.
Obviously, what happened was that Pete and Steve showed up and Pete OK'd the pin-up as is and we all went for a ride to Connecticut. That ride still is one of the highlights of my last summer.

Turtle Belly Tat

This is impressive. Which show this guy was at, I can't remember, and it wasn't as if he came up to the table and was like-"Check out my tat!". I caught him showing it to somebody and I kinda jumped on him and asked him if I could take a picture of it. I'm not sure, but he might have been a little embarrassed.
Hat's off to you, sir.

Gypsy Apple Mike

Most, if not all folks, probably know me from my Ninja Turtle work. This is a drawing that I did for a friend that owns and runs a restaurant in Shelburne, MA called THE GYPSY APPLE. In an odd coincidence, his name is Michelangelo. Hey, it didn't take much to figure out that it would be cool to do him a Turtle drawing that he could hang there. Which he has, right by his kitchen.
BTW, the gypsy apple refers to a pomegranate, which Mike appears to be looking past in the drawing.

Izzy is my best buddy and "Little Brother".

Happy Guzzi Guy

Unusual for me, I've been sketching at night lately. Honestly, I"ve been thinking and starting to get together the art for a new sketchbook. This is a piece for that book.

An Introduction

This art was originally done for the cover of my first sketchbook, TATTOO. That sketchbook was rather unfortunately named, as it would be easy to surmise that it contained tattoo art, which it did not. I just thought the name sounded cool. Also poorly named was my original blog, THE IMAGE APOCALYPSE, which now no longer exists.
Alright, coming up with good names is not my strength.
Boxburning, this blog, simply refers to a tattoo that I have on my left forearm. The story behind it is that in my drawings, I would sometimes include a little cube-thingie. I sorta adopted this cube and wanted to put one on my body. When it came time to get it, I decided to jazz it up some and some flames were just the thing to give it that little extra flair.
